I love the English on the introductory paper. “Heat Warning Scripture”

Language: yeah still don’t know what goes on at church, but sometimes I have a gist of what’s happening. Gift of tongues is also the gift of patience. 笑う!just gotta keep going.

This is the street cart that all of our money goes into.(not bitter
or anything)

Area: I love the city!! There’s a lot of potential, and it’s a lot of fun to help it grow. We don’t really have Investigators right now so it’s a lot of finding. And finding, and finding…lol but there have been lots of tender mercies in our lives as we try to find new people. One of them was as we were walking near a the famous clock tower and
some women recognized us! And she was so happy to see us. It was so much nicer rather then people telling us that Jesus is bad. Heavenly Father is truly mindful of His children.

The bishop’s FHE we gave a spiritual message at!

Spiritual: Wow! This transfer I decided that I would study preach my gospel from cover to cover. And it has been a really amazing experience. Right now I am in the chapter about studying and how we can make study time a more sacred experience. I’m really grateful for study time and the revelation we able to receive through it. When you study with intent we learn so much more and the spirit is able to teach us more because we are willing and seeking the words of God. I invite you all to set apart an hour of your day to meditate, study God’s word, and take time to take care of your spirit. Just like we need exercise everyday we also need spiritual exercise everyday to be more conditioned to the promptings of the spirit. I’m truly grateful for this mission I’m serving, the people I’m loving, and the hard stuff in between.

Moiwa w/渡部姉妹

Haha oh man. I am in Moiwa! The heart of the city of Sapporo. It’s super fun and the ward is really big and I love it.

My companion is Watabe Shimai! She is half Japanese like me, she is from Ohio and was in BYU’s color guard! Fun stuff!

Texting in Japanese is probably the hardest thing I’ve done.

leighbowling

This week was kind of crazy, I don’t have too much to write about, but
all is well here in Moiwa.

Love y’all!

Week 21: Bean Chan days are over!

This week is transfer calls! And my training will officially finish! Which is kind of scary but also exciting.
masks
Japanese face masks are funny.
Not much has happened in between last Wednesday and today. I got sick over the weekend which wasn’t fun but today I’m alright. 🙂 we got to watch conference this weekend and it was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever sat and listened so intently in my life.

One of my favorite lines from general conference is from the last talk President Uchtdorf gave called “Perfect love casteth out fear”. In it he says:

“My beloved friends, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, if we ever find ourselves living in fear or anxiety, or if we ever find that our own words, attitudes, or actions are causing fear in others, I pray with all the strength of my soul that we may become liberated from this fear by the divinely appointed antidote to fear: the pure love of Christ, for “perfect love casteth out fear.”

The snow has melted. The view is always gorgeous.
I’m not sure who knows this but I’ve always been a very anxious human. Sometimes I have a hard time feeling the spirit because I find myself in fear, worrying constantly about nothing. But something I have learned in this mission experience is to let go, and take that leap of faith. I testify that as we take that first step of blind faith, Christ is there to catch us when we fall back in fear. His love is always there. It’s always perfect. It’s always 10000% accurate when our jumps have miscalculations. That’s the best part about this gospel. No matter how bad we feel we messed up, the path to healing is much nearer then we think.
I love you all! I’m sorry I don’t have much, this week. Next week should have more 🙂
Stay genki!

Week 20: Spring has sprung!🌻🌷🌹

Thank you for all the wonderful emails I’ve received! You all sound happy and very very in love! Anyways!

jacket
A lady in a ward in Moiwa was so worried that I was cold because I’m from AZ and HI. So she gave me her son’s jacket.

I’m sorry I didn’t email on Monday. (so sorry Mom) Today is temple P-day. It was sooo good to just sit, and ponder in the house of God. The people are so blessed to have this beautiful jewel in Sapporo.

Weekly Update!

Weather: FINALLY SPRING. 春になった!やった!There are buds on the Sakura and ume trees (cherry blossoms and plum) and it is so refreshing. Today we didn’t have to wear a jacket outside either! I’m so excited because in a couple weeks it’ll start to feel like a new place with all the snow gone. Once all the snow melts we get our bikes!! Yayyy!!

socksntonkatsu
BEST tonkatsu I ever had.                                                                           100 yen shop socks makes me happy.

Language: Yeahhh…. it’s comin! I’m getting fairly comfortable with it. i understand about 40% of what is going on. But still so much to learn! It’s cool to see far along you come since the first day in the MTC.

arrington
Sis. Arrington from Hombu! I worked with her cousin in the Phx temple. Seriously the BEST people.

Companion: Koyama Shimai is the bomb! haha so cute, and I learn so much from her all the time! I’m so blessed to have her as a companion. And also sad because this week might be our last week together since transfers are next week! We shall see what happens!

odori
Odori some for the win!
jordanshimai
Bye bye Jordan Shimai! We will miss you!

Miracles: WOW let me tell you, God is everywhere you look. Last week we found 3 new investigators, and this week 2 more. By the end of this week we should have taught 13 lessons. the days are getting crazy. Not much finding anymore because we are hopping from appointment to appointment. I can’t complain. My heart is full, and it truly does
bring joy to teach the gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. I love Hokkaido so much. The people are so humble. Snow, rain, or shine, these church member’s testimonies are always warm and full of the Savior’s love.

zoneconf
Odori Zone Conference

Spiritual: This week I learned about charity and patience! This transfer i really wanted to learn patience with myself. I found it easy to be patient with someone else but personally I have been struggling. This week I read a scripture and it talked about the Savior’s example of Charity. 1 Nephi 19:9 “Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men.” This scripture made me ponder on how Christ needed patience to have charity, and charity to have patience. This transfer I have definitely learned about how I can create patience and show love through it. Heavenly Father loves everyone so much!! As we serve others, we feel just an ounce of how much God loves His children.
Love you everyone!
Stay Genki!
Sasaki Shimai 🙂
